Private donor experiences supporting land expansion, wildlife protection, and long-term conservation at Hippo Lakes.
In recent years, Hippo Lakes has expanded this work to be housed under the Hippo Lakes Conservation Initiative, which focuses on land protection, rhino protection technology, and the daily care of wildlife already under its protection.
Hippo Lakes owns thousands of acres that have been intentionally protected by the luxury safari lodge. This protected landscape is home to zebras, hippos, rhinos and many other species. The initiative also supports the protection of other endangered species, including the pangolin.
The Hippo Lakes Conservation Initiative uses a collaborative model rooted in protection, innovation, and long-term preservation to enhance and amplify Hippo Lakes conservation.
Secure additional habitat so wildlife populations and future conservation work have room to grow.
Build on the Savannah Rhino Conservancy; our partnership with the Rhisotope Project uses isotope-based horn treatment to protect and track rhinos against poaching.
Fund the continuation of veterinary care, anti-poaching security and land stewardship that keep the wildlife at Hippo Lakes protected.
Hippo Lakes’ approach follows the SCATT model (Security, Community, Advocacy, Technology and Tourism).
In practice, that means:
Waterberg Guardian is the Hippo Lakes sponsorship program that recognizes those who stand behind the protection of rhino and habitat in the Waterberg. Sponsorship supports conservation programs in the region, and Guardians are named partners in the story we share with our guests.
