HIPPO LAKES NAMES ARLINGTON CENTER FOR DERMATOLOGY AS INAUGURAL WATERBERG GUARDIAN

Luxury South African safari lodge launches commercial sponsorship initiative, supports wildlife protection and conservation education in the Waterberg region

Hippo Lakes Safari Lodge has announced the launch of its conservation sponsorship initiative, naming Arlington Center for Dermatology as its inaugural Waterberg Guardian. The yearlong partnership will support ranger-led wildlife protection and monitoring, conservation education woven through the guest and guide experience, and employment and community programs in the rural Waterberg region of South Africa.

Waterberg Guardian is the premier tier of Hippo Lakes’ conservation sponsorship program, which supports work across three key areas: wildlife protection and monitoring, including rhino conservation; conservation education delivered through the guest and guide experience; and community impact and employment in the surrounding rural Waterberg region.

“When we established Hippo Lakes, we always knew that we wanted to be a disruptor in the travel and hospitality industry, and conservation is at the very center of that,” said Wesley Hobbs, vice president of Hippo Lakes. “Now just over 10 years later, we’re excited to partner with Arlington Center for Dermatology to further build on our conservation efforts.”

Arlington Center for Dermatology is an independent, physician-owned dermatology practice in Arlington, Texas, led by board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist Angela Yen Moore, M.D., providing medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology care to patients of all ages across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The practice’s support of the Waterberg Guardian program extends its commitment to health and stewardship beyond the clinic to one of the world’s most threatened wild landscapes.

“We spend our days protecting and restoring health for our patients,” said Angela Yen Moore, M.D., board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist, Arlington Center for Dermatology. “We believe all God’s creatures need care and protection, so partnering to protect wildlife in Africa, and the wild Waterberg they depend on, felt like a significant way to extend creation care around the world.”

Earlier this year, Hippo Lakes announced the launch of the Savannah Rhino Conservancy, a rhino conservation initiative at Hippo Lakes that reintroduced six rhinos to the wild in South Africa’s Waterberg region. Through its partnership with the Rhisotope Project, Hippo Lakes is introducing low levels of nuclear isotopes into rhino horns as part of its ongoing efforts to combat rhino poaching.

“We’re always searching for new ways to protect and safely enjoy the beautiful Waterberg region,” said Martin Deacon, CEO of Hippo Lakes. “And we’ve found that science, conservation and local and international partnerships can work together to secure a future for education, community impact and the world’s most threatened species.”
